Converting digital file formats/ document recovery
Sometimes, as computers have been updated and word processing programmes change, users are stranded with files in a proprietary format that their current wordprocessor cannot read. Sometimes there is a quick cure, and sometimes there is long, involved process, dependent upon the degree of formatting which the user wishes to retain. And sometimes it’s just… sometimes.
I can attempt to recover and convert documents as a service for my standard fee ($40/hr). In general, if I cannot achieve a satisfactory result, there will be no charge. I regard the attempt as part of my education…
Files need to be on accessible storage media ( most, but not all 3 ½ inch floppies: USB; standard HDD; CD/DVD-Rom) or electronic attachments to email. Sorry, can’t do 5 ¼ floppies any more).
I have had good or partial success in recovering files in the following formats:
- MS Works (Windows)
- WordPerfect (Windows)
- ClarisWorks (very early Macs)
- AppleWorks (early Macs)
- Impression (BBC/Archimedes)
